The approved 2109 Capital Budget includes $109,000 for the replacement of a 2-ton Chipper Truck.  The current truck is over 15 years old and is scheduled for replacement.  The chipper truck is used daily by Public Works Forestry Unit for collecting debris chipped during tree trimming and removal operations.  The Public Works - Fleet Unit has inspected the vehicle and recommends replacement.  The current truck will be sold by auction per Village guidelines.

The Village will be utilizing the State contract for this purchase.  The current State of Illinois contract for heavy duty trucks is with Rush Truck Centers of Springfield, Illinois.  The International cab and chassis with chipper box costs $111,514.  The contract cost is $2,514 over budget, due to additional safety devices added to the vehicle.  The 2019 Fleet Operations Budget for Public Works can accommodate the overage.  The Village has successfully worked with this vendor in the past, and staff recommends award.

Funds for this purchase are available in Account No. 621-9003-572.50-05 (VH9501).  

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the Village Board award the purchase of the 2021 International Series HV607 2-ton Chipper Truck to Rush Truck Centers of Springfield, Illinois, in an amount not-to-exceed $111,514 and authorize staff to execute the necessary documents.
