During an annual inspection on the Fire Department ladder truck #432, several deficiencies were found that required correction before the unit could be put back into operation. These types of repairs are not uncommon due to the age of the equipment. Under normal circumstances, the truck would of been worked on at Public Works and returned for re-certification. However, at the time of inspection, Public Works was busy keeping the Fire Department's five ambulances in active status to accommodate the numerous special events occurring during the start of the school year.
The total cost of the repairs was $47,177.22. The work was completed in order to return the aerial truck back to service as quickly as possible without affecting Fire operations. The Unit is from 2002 and scheduled for replacement within the next five years.
Global is the only authorized dealer in the area. Staff has had positive experience working with Global Emergency Products before and therefore authorized the repairs as an emergency expense.
Funds are available for this repair in Account No. 621-7501-551.21-07.
