The Village has received requests for parking restrictions to be placed on Vine St, from N Fernandez Ave to N Ridge Ave.  Engineering Staff reviewed the location and determined Vine St did not have sufficient width to support parking on both sides of the street. Vehicles parked on both sides of the street, in close proximity, create an insufficient width for traffic to drive on Vine St in either direction, creating a concern for fire or medical situations. The north side of the street has more continuous curb and less driveways making it better suited for on-street parking. The Village sent out letters proposing parking restrictions to the south side of the street to the four households living on Vine St. Two households responded as being for the restrictions and two households responded as against. Based on the width of the street and the concern for emergency vehicle traffic, the Engineering Division supports parking restrictions on the south side of Vine St.

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that an Ordinance Prohibiting Parking along the south side of Vine Street between North Fernandez Avenue and North Ridge Avenue be approved.
