The 2020 Capital budget includes funding for the remodeling of the kitchen at Fire Station #2. The kitchen is original to the construction of the building in 2000. The durability of the original kitchen has proven problematic, as the materials have not held up well to the heavy use by the 33 firefighters that are assigned to Station 2 on three separate shifts. The goal of the kitchen remodeling was to replace the cabinets, appliances, counter, and flooring, with more durable materials that can withstand the extensive use of numerous shifts.
In order to obtain higher quality materials and still stay within budget, Public Works agreed to act as General Contractor with help from the Fire Department. Numerous quotes were obtained for the various tasks needed to complete the project.
Staff is seeking Board approval, because the overall project exceeds our spending authority and the project was not bid as a whole.
The associated costs of the project are as follows:
Lowe’s (Arlington Heights) for Kitchen Cabinets for Perimeter Cabinets $22,394.95
Cabinets & Granite Direct for Island Cabinets $6,707.95
W. Horvath Carpentry for Cabinet Installation $4,700.00
ABT for Appliances $21,146.00
Hardroc Inc. for Countertops $12,307.00
Performance Decorative for Epoxy Flooring $10,323.57
Miscellaneous Electrical Supplies $1,620.00
The total estimated expense for the project is $79,199.47 and is within the $80,000 budget. Staff is requesting approval to waive the formal bidding process and proceed with the project.
Funds for the project materials are available in Account Nos.401-7101-571.50-20 (BL 9505) and 401-3501-572.50-10 (EQ 9503).
RECOMMENDATION
