Attached is the Village's Stormwater Management Program Report. This report outlines the maintenance and documentation of our separate storm sewer system pursuant to the requirements of our MS4 Permit, through the Metropolitan Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
The Stormwater Management Program (SWMP) was developed by the Village of Arlington Heights (Village) based on a template provided by the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission (SMC). The purpose of the SWMP is to meet the minimum standards required by the United State Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Phase II program. Federal regulations through the USEPA require that all Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4s), partially or fully in urbanized areas, based on the 2000 census, obtain stormwater permits for their discharges into receiving waters.
The SWMP describes the procedures and practices that are implemented by the Village toward the goal of reducing the discharge of pollutants within stormwater runoff to comply with Federal standards. Compliance with the SWMP is intended to protect water quality thus contributing to cleaner lakes and streams, improved recreational opportunities and tourism, flood damage reduction, better aesthetics and wildlife habitat, and a safer and healthier environment for the citizens.
