The 2020 Budget had included $25,000 in the Arts, Entertainment, & Events Fund for new rapid rise smoke detectors at the Metropolis Theater to replace existing smoke detectors.  Due to circumstances related to COVID19, this project was not completed and no budget was rolled forward to the 2021 Budget.  Metropolis has indicated that it wishes to pursue this life safety project this year, and has requested a budget amendment for the previously budgeted amount of $25,000 to do so.  A memo from Metropolis outlining the history of this capital request is attached.

In the past, budget amendments such as this have been accomplished through Village Board approval of the agenda item.  The Village's Legal Counsel recommends that any budget amendments should be processed more formally through an ordinance amending the budget.  As such, this agenda item includes the proposed approval of an ordinance amending the 2021 Arts, Entertainment & Events Fund budget by $25,000 as part of this request.

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Village Board approve the attached ordinance amending the 2021 Arts, Entertainment & Events Fund Budget, account number 515-2005-525.50-55 (EQ1710) in the amount of $25,000 for the Metropolis Theater smoke detector replacements.
