After researching bullet proof vests from two different companies. We recommend the Safe Life level IIIA+ vest. This vest is unique in that it is the only vest found to be rated for both firearms and edged weapons. While other manufacturers will suggest their vests will do well against knives, Safe Life is the only company that offers a bullet proof vest that also has an NIJ rating for defense against edged weapons. We recognize this vest best meets our requirements in addition, Safe Life will also replace any vest that is shot or stabbed while being worn on duty.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the Village Board waive formal bidding procedures and approve Safe Life Defense as a sole source provider.
