Public Works continues to increase our use of liquid deicer in Snow & Ice Operations. Liquids increase the effectiveness of road salt and reduce the waste from the salt bouncing off the roadway. Liquids are also used in anti-icing operations as a preventative method to reduce the bond between ice and the roadway. 

On November 6, 2017, the Village Board awarded a three-year contract, with three optional one-year extensions to Industrial Systems LTD. of Lakemoor, Illinois, at bid price of $0.6680/gallon for liquid deicer.  

Per Village policy, staff is recommending the second of three possible one-year extensions. The vendor has requested a price increase to $0.69801/gallon and is within contract terms. Staff has been satisfied with the product and services provided by Industrial Systems. 

Funding for this material is available in Account No. 101-7101-531.31-90.

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the Village Board award a one-year contract extension for liquid deicer to Industrial Systems LTD. of Lakemoor, IL, at unit prices up to the budgeted amount $109,000 and authorize staff to execute the necessary documents.
