The approved FY21 Capital Budget includes $48,000 for the replacement of a utility truck for the Fleet Unit of Public Works. This utility truck is used daily in most tasks performed by the Fleet Unit, such as servicing vehicles in the field. The current vehicle is in excess of 20 years old, and the Fleet Unit has deemed the vehicle in need of replacement. If this award is approved, the existing vehicle will be sold at auction, per Village requirements.

The proposed vehicle is a 2022 Ford F-250XL pickup truck, which is considered a flex fuel vehicle with a removable tailgate. Staff is proposing to purchase the vehicle through the Suburban Purchasing Cooperative (SPC). SPC is a joint purchasing program for local communities. SPC represents 143 municipalities in a six County Area of Northern Illinois, and is administered through the Northwest Municipal Conference. By bidding out common vehicles and services, the SPC is able to offer lower prices through greater economies of scale. Currie Motors Fleet of Frankfort, IL is the SPC low bidder on this vehicle, and offers this unit at a discounted price of $46,500, which is $1,500 under the budgeted allowance.

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the Village Board approve the purchase of one 2022 Ford F-250XL Pickup Truck in an amount not-to-exceed $46,500 from Currie Motors Fleet of Frankfort, Illinois, and authorize staff to execute the necessary documents.
