The approved FY22 Capital budget includes $142,500 for the replacement of two 1-ton dump trucks in the Public Works Department. One-ton dump trucks are one of the Department's most heavily used vehicles, as they are used in all Public Works programs due to their versatility. The current trucks are 20 years old and have exceeded their useful lives.
Staff is proposing to purchase these vehicles through the Suburban Purchasing Cooperative (SPC). SPC is a joint purchasing program for local communities. When communities combine their purchasing quantities, lower unit prices are experienced. SPC represents 143 municipalities in a six County Area of Northern Illinois, and is administered through the Northwest Municipal Conference.
The lowest bid for the 1-ton truck is from Currie Motors Fleet of Frankfort, IL for a total cost of $144,758. This purchase is $2,258 over budget. Staff has confirmed with the Finance Department that the Fleet Replacement Fund can accommodate the overage on savings from earlier purchases. Staff will adjust the projected expenses in our 10-year Capital Plan.
Funding for this purchase is available in Account No. 621-9003-572.50-05 (VH9501).
