The Village of Arlington Heights was selected as a recipient by the US Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) for a grant award under the funding opportunity entitled 2021 Community Policing Development (CPD) Crisis Intervention Team Solicitation. The award is for $250,000 for a two-year term concluding on August 31, 2023. The application proposes the implementation of a Crisis Co-Responder Team (CCRT) that will embed a full-time and part-time crisis counselor within the Police Department. These crisis counselors will be available to respond to calls for service that involve someone that may be suffering from mental health crisis and assist them through appropriate treatment navigation. The majority of the award will be allocated towards a service agreement with AMITA Health for the provision of two dedicated crisis counselors that will be made available for response eight hours a day, seven days a week. The remaining funds will be utilized for overtime expenses related to training officers on the new program and how to best utilize this new resource. 

 

(There is also a budget amendment ordinance for approval on the Agenda related to this Resolution.  The Ordinance allows utilization of the funds granted by this Resolution.)

 

RECOMMENDATION

 

It is recommended that a Resolution Accepting a US Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Grant, be approved.
