The approved 2022 Capital Budget includes $203,524 for the replacement of the Village's log loader. The loader is used to efficiently pick up logs and or brush piles along the edge of the roadway. This equipment is used on a daily basis in tree trimming and removal operations.
The current truck is a 2008 International 7400 Prentiss 2124BC log loader (mounted to the chassis). The Fleet Unit has inspected the current log loader and has deemed it in need of replacement.
Staff is recommending purchase of a 2023 International MV607 Chassis with grapple and dump body through Sourcewell (formerly NJPA), a joint purchasing cooperative similar to NWMC that uses multiple government agencies and collaborative purchasing to obtain more competitive bid pricing. Through Sourcewell, the vendor has a chassis available and will deliver a truck that meets specs by August of 2022. The cost is $206,053.52 which is $2,529.53 over budget.
Sourcewell has awarded Petersen Industries the contract for log loaders. The local vendor is EJ Equipment of Manteno, IL. Staff has tested this model and recommends award.
Funds for this purchase and the overage are available in Account Number 621-9003-572.50-05 (VH9501).
