The Public Works Department maintains thirteen Pumping Stations in the Village, in order to handle the storm and sanitary needs of the community. The 2022 budget includes funds for storm water improvements.
On March 7th, 2022, Stormwater Pump #2 at our Wilke I Stormwater Pump Station failed. At this station, the Village operates three pump assemblies, and has one as a backup. A pump assembly is a submersible pump and motor in one unit. The pumping station handles stormwater for the Wilke I Detention Pond. The backup pump was installed so that the Station would remain fully operational. The failed pump assembly was broken down and taken to the distributor for inspection and analysis. After serving 25 years, the pump assembly is no longer economically serviceable, and it is recommended that it be replaced. The replacement pump assembly is from Xylem Water Solutions and matches the other three pumps located at the Wilke I and Wilke II Stations. The pump will be stored as an emergency backup. It is important to keep all of the pump assemblies from the same manufacturer, so they can be interchangeable. Xylem is the sole source provider of Flygt pumps, and staff has had success with them in numerous projects in the past. The cost for the proposed pump assembly $61,171.15. Staff recommends the waiving of competitive bids and award to Xylem Water Solutions of Mokena, Illinois as the sole provider of Xylem.
Funding for these items are available in Account No. 426-7101-571.50-25 (SW 1520).
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Village Board waive competitive bidding and award the Stormwater Pump Replacement contract to Xylem Water Solutions of Mokena, Illinois, for purchase of the replacement pump assembly, at a not-to-exceed amount of $61,171.15 and authorize staff to execute the necessary documents.
