The Police Department is seeking approval for the acquisition of a special purpose vehicle for use during law enforcement related operations. The purchase replaces a 13-year-old vehicle in the current authorized fleet which has reached the end-of-useful. The acquisition includes all supplemental costs associated with replacing installed equipment and peripherals. Funds secured from the disposal of the current vehicle, based on the depreciated market value of the vehicle base and installed components, will offset the costs in purchase of the new vehicle.

Recommendation

It is recommended the Village Board approve the purchase of the special purpose vehicle in the amount of $195,291.24 and disposal of the current asset. As the vehicle will be acquired through a vetted, sole-source vendor, Point Blank Enterprises (Pompano Beach, Florida), staff is further recommending waiver of formal bidding procedures. Sufficient funds currently exist in the Criminal Investigations Fund (231-3003-511.40-11).
