Item: Manhole Rehabilitation Contract Extension
Department: Public Works

The Public Works Department maintains approximately 5,627 sanitary and combined manholes. Staff has found rehabilitation to be a cost effective way to perform preventative maintenance. Manhole rehabilitation involves repairing a manhole with cementitious grout or epoxy, depending on the severity of the deterioration. All manhole rehabilitation work can be done without excavation and disturbing the current infrastructure. Overall, manhole rehabilitation helps reduce the periodic maintenance of the sanitary and storm sewer manholes over the useful lifespan of the structure and stops infiltration and intrusion.

The Village has an existing three-year contract with Culy Contracting, which was originally authorized by the Board on May 6, 2019. Per Village Policy, contract extensions can be approved one year at a time, up to the original terms of the contract, with Board approval.

Staff has been pleased with Culy Contracting, and their quality of work. Staff is requesting the third and final one-year contract extension. This extension would begin in January 2023 through January 2024. Culy Contracting is projecting no price increases for this extension.

Funding is available for these services in Account No. 426-7101-571.50-25 (SW1520).

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the Village Board award a one-year contract extension for Manhole Rehabilitation to Culy Contracting of Winchester, Indiana, at unit bid prices, up to the budgeted amount, and authorize Staff to execute the necessary documents.
