Item: Police Department Commendation - Officer Treston Schoeny

On August 2nd, 2022, while participating in the National Night Out event at North School Park, Officer Treston Schoeny observed a commotion in the crowd a short distance from where he was standing. Officer Schoeny discovered a 7-year-old boy, Colin Connolly, who was choking and could not breathe. Officer Schoeny, without hesitation, administered the Heimlich Maneuver and was able to dislodge a piece of candy that was obstructing his airway. This all occurred amidst a large crowd of concerned observers.

 

The incident was captured on Police body worn camera, showing the quick reaction and decisive response of Officer Schoeny.

 

Colin Connelly is here tonight with his mother, Christine, father, Neil, sister, Claire amongst other supportive family and friends. Colin's father, Neil, is also an Officer with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Area Port of Chicago, and is joined today by:
