In the 2022 MFT Street Reconstruction – Project Update Status memo dated September 20, 2022, staff was informed that Builders Paving, LLC did not anticipate being able to complete five streets that were included in the original contract, even with the eight-week extension. 

 

The five streets that remain untouched are: Eton Drive; Stanford Road; Stanford Road, West Ladd Street; North Ridge Avenue; Campbell Street.
 
Several circumstances including labor & trucking shortages, material shortages, and an eight-week aggregate worker strike led to the contractor requesting they be able to complete these streets at the beginning of next year’s construction season.

Staff carefully reviewed this request with legal counsel and does support Builders Paving, LLC suspending the project through the winter and completing the remaining five streets in early 2023. Builders Paving, LLC has agreed to hold all contract pricing as awarded, start the remaining work April 3, 2023, and complete the work by June 2, 2023.

 

Staff will communicate the necessary construction change with the effected businesses, schools, and residents.

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the Village Board approve the 2022 MFT Street Reconstruction Project - Change Order No. 2 - Contract Suspension & Extension with Builder’s Paving, LLC of Hillside, Illinois, and authorize Staff to execute the necessary documents.
