The Rules of the Arlington Heights Board of Fire and Police Commissioners are reviewed periodically to ensure continued compliance with applicable laws and consistency with current best practices and processes. The Rules were last reviewed and updated in 2020. Pursuant to, and in adoption of, recent amendments to the Illinois Municipal Code, citizen status for the position of Police Officer and Firefighter at the time of application has been updated. Similarly, out-of-state certified police officer eligibility has been revised to reflect current Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) requirements and qualifications. Examination elements for entry level and certified police officer have both been revised to promote the Village and Commission’s pre-employment applicant screening in an expedited manner. Finally, the Police Department promotional examination process for the rank of Police Sergeant received minor updates for clarification and continuity.
The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners reviewed the revised Rules at their March 18th, 2024 meeting and recommend the Village Board adoption the presented revised rules.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the Village Board adopt the attached Resolution adopting Rules for the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners.
