BACKGROUND
The approved FY 15 Fleet Operations Fund includes $246,500 for the replacement of 9 Police pursuit vehicles. The Police Department and Public Works have reviewed the current fleet and believe replacing five vehicles this year is appropriate.
In 2013, the Village began utilizing the Ford Interceptors as a replacement to the common Crown Victoria squad car. The Ford Interceptor offers a large body style with all-wheel drive that has more space to accommodate the necessary equipment used by the Police Officers on a daily basis.
The Suburban Purchasing Cooperative (SPC) is a joint purchasing program for member municipalities. The SPC represents 143 municipalities in the six county area of Northern Illinois and is administered through the Northwest Municipal Conference, DuPage Mayors & Managers Conference, the South Suburban Mayors & Managers Conference and the Will County Government League.
Currie Motors has been awarded the SPC contract through November 8, 2014. This year’s price is $27,064 per squad and represents a 4% increase over last year. Staff has been satisfied with the Ford Interceptors purchased last year.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Village Board approve the purchase of five Ford Utility Police Interceptor Vehicles from Currie Motors of Frankfort, IL in the amount of $135,320 through the Suburban Purchasing Cooperative and authorize Staff to execute the necessary documents.
