BACKGROUND

At the October 7, 2013 Closed Session, the Village Board authorized settlement of the workers' compensation claim for Firefighter David Diedrich, who contracted pancreatic cancer and stopped working for the Village in 2009. He passed away eight months later. Pursuant to State law, cancer is a protected condition for which firefighters are entitled to compensation.

The settlement amount is $132,944 which falls within the authorization previously granted by the Board.

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the Village Board approve the worker's compensation settlement for David Diedrich in the amount of $132,944.
