BACKGROUND 

The approved 8-Month Budget Ending December 31, 2015 includes $111,000 for the replacement of two Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and two sedans in the Fire Department.  The SUVs and one of the sedans being replaced are in excess of 10 years old and the other sedan is over 13 years old.  All vehicles are scheduled and recommended for replacement.  When the new vehicles are delivered and prepped for service, the old vehicles will be surplused at auction. 

The Suburban Purchasing Cooperative (SPC) is a joint purchasing program for local communities.  The SPC represents 143 municipalities in the six-county area of Northern Illinois and is administered through the Northwest Municipal Conference, DuPage Mayors & Managers Conference, the South Suburban Mayors & Managers Conference and the Will County Government League.

The Fire Department has requested to upgrade the replacement of one of the sedans to an SUV.  The SUV has additional storage space that is needed for equipment.  An internal analysis of the Fire Department fleet indicates that a fourth vehicle is not needed and therefore the second sedan will not be replaced.  These vehicles are used by command staff within the Fire Department.  

Staff recommends purchasing three SUVs - Ford Utility Interceptors, as they are equipped with a more robust front end and are less expensive than the comparable civilian Explorer.    

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the Village Board award the bid to Currie Motors of Frankfort, Illinois in the amount of $80,706 for the purchase of three SUVs - Ford Utility Interceptors for the Fire Department and authorize Staff to execute the necessary contracts.
