BACKGROUND
This floor grinder is used in grinding concrete floors to remove imperfections and in preparation for a new coating. Public Works Staff completed an experimental section of floor using rental equipment and was pleased with its performance.
Purchasing this equipment will reduce our rental costs and allows staff to perform the work in-house at a savings to the Village.Staff is planning on grinding and coating the entire Public Works Garage floor in an effort to extend its service life. The recoating of the entire Public Works Garage floor is expected to take between five to seven years to complete.
Staff prepared specifications and a public bid was held on April 7, 2015 with three bids being opened and read aloud. The following bids were received:

The low bid submitted by Jon-Don fully meets specifications and is within the budget allocation. Staff has successfully worked with Jon Don in the past and recommends approval. Funding to purchase a Floor Grinder for Public Works is included in the 8-Month Budget Period Ending December 31, 2015.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Village Board approve the purchase of a Scanmaskin Floor Grinder from Jon-Don of Roselle, IL in the amount not to exceed $31,559.85.
