BACKGROUND
On February 20, 2015 Arlington Heights Fire Personnel responded to a residential fire located at 812 N. Kasper. The nature of the fire was exasperated by the volume of debris stored within the house. After fighting the fire for twelve hours, the Fire Department requested assistance to open the house up so that the Fire Department could adequately douse the entire structure and associated debris within.
Two days after the fire was extinguished, the Fire Department and Public Works Department worked together to schedule the emergency demolition of the remaining house structure. This action was coordinated with the home owner and his insurance carrier. For much of this work, the Village was able to utilize two vendors who already have contracts with the Village and their costs were billed at the approved unit prices. The costs listed below are in excess of $10,000 and, accordingly, need Village Board approval:
LoVerde Construction $10,010.00
MBL Recycling $13,700.70
It is anticipated that the homeowner’s insurance company will reimburse the Village for most, if not all, of the costs associated with this event. For any costs not reimbursed, the Village can lien the property.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Village Board waive competitive bids due to the emergency situation and approve payment to LoVerde Construction for $10,010 and MBL Recycling for $13,700.70 for their costs related to the house fire at 812 N. Kasper.
