BACKGROUND
A couple of residents in the 700 Block of North Salem Avenue contacted the Village with safety concerns when vehicles are parked in the cul-de-sac at the south end of their block. Specifically, when vehicles are parked there, it can be difficult for emergency vehicles to get to homes, creating a concern for fire or medical situations. Another consequence of these cars parked in the cul-de-sac is that access for vehicles for trash, delivery, and service type trucks is limited to such an extent that damage to the parkway occurs from tires rolling off the pavement.
The Village sent out two separate letters proposing parking restrictions under two configurations. From the results of the second survey, of the 12 letters delivered, 10 responses were received back and seven residents were in favor of restricting parking around the cul-de-sac only, and three were opposed.
RECOMMENDATION
Based upon this consensus, it is recommended that the Village Board adopt the attached Ordinance Prohibiting Parking starting at the north property line of 824 N. Salem Avenue, proceeding southerly around the entire cul-de-sac, and terminating at the north property line of 823 N. Salem.
