BACKGROUND
The Village Board awarded a contract to Industrial Systems Ltd. for roadway liquid deicer on August 4, 2013. Roadway liquid deicer is an agriculturally based ice melting solution that allows the Village to use less rock salt during snow and ice operations, but still maintain safe and drive-able roadways.
Industrial Systems Ltd was the lowest responsible bidder out of a total of six bids in 2013. The initial contract was for two years with two optional one-year extensions. As of August 2015, Industrial Systems Ltd. has completed the original term of the contract. Staff has been satisfied with Industrial Systems Ltd.’s product availability and the speed at which product orders are processed and delivered.
Staff recommends proceeding with the first, one-year contract extension at a proposed price of .708 per gallon of liquid deicer. This proposed price is a 1.4% decrease from last year’s per gallon price. This reduction in pricing will allow Public Works to maximize our $85,000 budget for roadway liquid deicer and purchase a total of 120,056 gallons. This is an increase of 1,672 gallons from last year’s purchase.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Village Board approve a one-year contract extension for roadway liquid deicer to Industrial Systems Ltd, McHenry, IL in the amount of $85,000.
