BACKGROUND
The Village Board awarded a contract to New Deal Deicing for non-chloride granular deicer on January 20, 2015. Non-chloride granular deicer is used to perform snow and ice control operations on the Village's three elevated parking garages.
The Village utilizes a combination of sodium and potassium acetate on the elevated garages. The Village has not permitted the use of chlorides on the parking garages due to its corrosive effect on the structural steel embedded within the concrete.
New Deal Deicing was the lowest responsible bidder in the public bid held December 9, 2014. The contract was for one year with an optional one-year extension. Staff is very pleased with the performance of the product from New Deal Deicing. Staff would like to extend the contract, per Village policy, for one additional year at the original bid per ton price, as agreed on by New Deal Deicing.
Staff recommends proceeding with a one-year contract extension for non-chloride granular deicer at the original bid price of $1,873 per ton.
