BACKGROUND
Each year the Public Works Department contracts for asphalt roadway patching for utility repairs and other maintenance needs. Roadway patching typically occurs in two phases during the construction season, in the spring and in the late summer. This year, staff has identified enough maintenance issues to justify a third phase for this fall. Public Works feels this work is necessary in order to best prepare our roadways for the upcoming winter season.
Staff is requesting to increase the value of the contract with Schroeder Asphalt to accommodate this extra phase. The total cost of the additional phase would not exceed $120,000. This extra work will raise the total value of the contract from $325,000 to $445,000. There are sufficient funds in the Water and Sewer Fund for this additional phase. Schroeder Asphalt is currently midway through a three year contract which was approved by the Village Board on May 19, 2014. To date, Schroeder Asphalt has satisfactorily completed a total of five phases of asphalt patching.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Village Board increase the value of the contract with Schroeder Asphalt of Huntley, Illinois to $445,000 in order to perform additional roadway asphalt restoration.
