At the September 21 Closed Session, the Village Board authorized settlement in the case of Franzen v. Village of Arlington Heights. This suit was filed by Timothy Franzen, a former firefighter for the Village. Mr. Franzen was seeking free health insurance from the Village pursuant to the Illinois Public Safety Employee Benefits Act (PSEBA) after a court ordered the Fire Pension Board to grant him a line-of-duty disability pension. 

Settlement was reached in the amount of $175,000, which is consistent with the authority given by the Board.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the Village Board approve the settlement in the case of Franzen v. Village of Arlington Heights in the amount of $175,000 and authorize the execution of all necessary documents to effectuate the settlement.
