At the May 4, 2015 Closed Session, the Village Board authorized settlement of the workers' compensation claim for electrician Matt Horn. While digging, Matt stepped out of a shallow hole injuring his right knee. The total settlement amount is $422,139. The Village’s portion of the settlement is $281,877.99, which falls within the authorization previously granted by the Board. The remainder will be paid by the Village’s excess carrier. The Village’s policy with the excess carrier is a reimbursement-type, which means the Village must pay the full amount and the excess carrier will reimburse the Village for anything over the Village’s agreed-upon limit.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the Village Board approve settlement to for the worker’s compensation claim of electrician Matt Horn in the amount of $281,877.99 but authorize payment for the full amount of the settlement of $422,139. The Village will be reimbursed for $140,261.01.
