BACKGROUND

The approved FY16 Capital Budget includes $109,000 for the replacement of a 6-wheel dump truck in the Public Works Department.  The State of Illinois, through their Central Management Services (CMS) Department offers a joint purchasing program to municipalities.  The current State contract is through Trans Chicago Truck Group of Elmhurst, Illinois.

The current 6-wheel dump truck is over 18 years old, and is used by the Public Works - Water Production Unit for hauling material to and from the jobsite.  The current vehicle has been inspected by the Public Works Fleet Unit and recommended for replacement.   If the purchase is approved, the current vehicle will be surplused, once the new vehicle is delivered.

Although the bid is $10,550 over budget, the Water Utility Operations Fund does have sufficient vehicle funds to cover the overage.  The overage is attributed to new emission requirements, and future years of the Fleet replacement schedule has been adjusted accordingly. 

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the Village Board award the bid to Trans Chicago Truck Group of Elmhurst, Illinois, in an amount not-to-exceed $119,550 for the purchase of one 6-Wheel Dump Truck for the Public Works Department, and authorize the execution of the necessary documents.
