In 2016, the Village retained the services of Riley Construction as construction manager for the new Police Station. Legat Architects, Engineering Consultants and Riley have prepared plans and bid specification for Bid Package #3A. Riley Construction has bid to subcontractors the components of the bid package.
In order to expeditiously proceed with construction of the new Police Station, several early bid packages have been prepared by Legat Architects and bid by Riley Construction. Developing these early bid packages and commencing construction on long lead time items allows Riley Construction to condense the construction schedule, rather than waiting until all plans are complete and bidding the entire project at once. This early bid package allows Riley Construction to commence with environmental abatement of the existing building, demolition, site utilities, electrical utilities, and relocation of Commonwealth Edison service to the existing Fire Station and Municipal parking garage, that need to be relocated, prior to the construction of the new Police Station.
Riley Construction Bid Package #3A $1,616,019
The bid is just under Riley’s budget estimate, and includes an allowance for modified electrical work and 5% construction contingency.
Funds are budgeted in the account 431-9013-571-5025 (BL 16-10) for this project.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the Village Board approve the Police Station abatement, demolition, site utilities, and electrical utilities bid package #3A, and authorize Riley construction to proceed with the Police Station construction in the amount of $1,616,019 to be funded form the Public Building account #431-9013-571-5025 (BL 16-10).
