Request:
Petitioners, Dave and Julie Esau, residents at 110 S. Brighton, requested a variance from Chapter 23, Section R305.1 of the Village of Arlington Heights Municipal Code requiring an 8 foot first floor ceiling height of habitable space in order to convert a single car garage into a den.
Recommendation:
At the meeting on May 11, 2017, the Building Code Review Board made a motion recommending to the Village Board to grant a lower ceiling height than allowed by current Village Code. The existing ceiling height of 7'7" in the attached garage, which is being converted to habitable space, does not pose any significant or serious risk in life safety to the habitants or first responders in the event of fire.
