The 2018 annual operating budget includes $230,000 for the routine removal of parkway trees and stumps, due to storms, hazardous conditions, or natural decline.  Yearly, Public Works contractually removes approximately 450 parkway trees.

On March 13, 2018, the Village held a public bid opening for Parkway Tree Removal and Emergency Tree Work. Six bids were publicly opened and read aloud.  The bids ranged for $150,415.00 to $293,955.00. Clean Cut Tree Service, Inc. of Grayslake, IL was the apparent low bidder.

The terms of the contract are for three years. The contract also stipulates an hourly emergency rate for tree removal assistance during natural disasters.

Clean Cut Tree has been the Village's Emerald Ash Borer tree removal contractor for the past six years.  Staff has been pleased with their scheduling and quality of workand recommends the contract award.

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the Village Board award a three year contract for Parkway Tree Removal and Emergency Tree Work to the lowest responsible bidder, Clean Cut Tree Service, Inc. of Grayslake, Illinois, at bid unit prices, up to the annual budget amount, and authorize Staff to execute the necessary documents.
