One of the many goals of the new Police Facility was to design a facility that will benefit the community and pursue additional funding when available.   In February 2018, the Village was notified that we were awarded a grant for up to $358,000 for the installation of a rain garden and permeable pavers for the shared access drive and the rear parking lot of the new Police Facility.  The Village is excited to partner with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) on this important project.  The rain garden will be installed to the south of the existing gazebo at the northwest corner of the municipal complex.  The rain garden is designed to be a native depressional area comprising of native plants with the purpose of naturally filtering the runoff prior to release to a storm sewer.  The permeable pavers will be an attractive commodity that will not only enhance the appearance of the front of our complex and parking lot but also will accommodate an additional 90,000 gallons of storm water storage. 

The attached Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) outlines the condition of the grant which includes the following major stipulations:

• The Village will receive 50% of approved costs at 50% of construction completion and 50% upon final completion and inspection by MWRD.

• The Village will provide all necessary maintenance of the improvements.

• The Village will prepare annual status reports of the improvement. 

• The Village will pay for and erect permanent signage adjacent to the improvements.

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the Village Board approve the attached Resolution Approving an Intergovernmental Agreement between the Village and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District and authorize Staff to execute any and all necessary documents.
