Routine tree trimming is a vital component of a well maintained urban forest, and is especially important to the health and structure of the 9,000 newly planted ash replacement trees. The Village has maintained a five-year Parkway Tree Trimming Program since 2002. To accomplish this program, Public Works utilizes contractual services, in addition to our in-house staff.
On January 14th, 2019, the following two bids were opened and publically read aloud:

The bid is for a three-year contract at various unit bid prices, for performing parkway tree trimming as needed. Per purchasing policy, Staff can request extensions up to the original contract length, per Board approval. The bid prices are based on estimated quantities and sizes of trees, projected for the first year of trimming. Actual expenditures will not exceed the annual budget of $250,000 for this item.
Robert Hendricksen Company submitted the lowest bid for the specified work. Robert Hendricksen Company is known to staff to be a responsible contractor, and has successfully completed this contract for our Village, and the Villages of Wheeling and Mount Prospect. Hendricksen's bid submittal meets specifications.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Village Board award the three-year contract for the Village's Parkway Tree Trimming to the low responsible bidder, Robert Hendricksen Company of Wheeling, Illinois, at the bid unit prices, not-to-exceed the annual budget allocation, and to authorize staff to execute the necessary documents.
