The approved 2019 Capital Budget includes $72,000 for the replacement of two vehicles for the Police Department. The proposed vehicles are 2019 Chevrolet Tahoes. One vehicle is for Patrol and one is for Forensics. The current vehicles are in excess of five years old, and exceeded their useful lives as Police vehicles. The Fleet Unit of Public Works has inspected these vehicles, and determined they are in need of replacement. The current vehicles will be surplused in accordance with Village guidelines.
The total cost for the two SUVs is $74,437.46. This cost is over budget by $2,437.46 but the overall Police Vehicle Replacement budget (Account No. 621-9003-572.50-05 VH9503) can accommodate the overage. We estimate after all purchases are made, to be $15,000 below budget for Police vehicles this year.
Staff proposes to purchase the vehicles through the Suburban Purchasing Cooperative (SPC). SPC is a joint purchasing program for local communities. The SPC represents 143 municipalities in the six County area of Northern Illinois and is administered through the Northwest Municipal Conference.
Currie Motors of Forest Park, IL is this year's winning bidder for this vehicle. The Village has worked with Currie Motors in the past and found them to be acceptable.
