The annual Sidewalk Program is typically bid with the annual Street Resurfacing Program to benefit from economics of scale and reduce hours of construction oversight.  The 2019 Resurfacing & Sidewalk Program was awarded on May 6, 2019 in the amount of $4,063,486.25. Of the not-to-exceed project cost, $385,000 was dedicated to sidewalk replacement. These replacements are identified through citizen requests and engineering inspection.

Due to the anticipated increased costs of the 2019 Paver Brick Replacement Program, it is the consensus of Village staff to reduce this contract by $127,000 from account 401-7101-571-5045 ST9011, so that these funds can be appropriated towards paver brick sidewalks in the Downtown as part of the 2019 Downtown Paver Brick Program.

In order to officially reduce the awarded contract by $127,000, the Village Board must approve a Change Order to the contract. This type of action is typically done at the end of a project to balance the funds. Since this funding is needed prior to end of the resurfacing program, staff is requesting the Change Order now.

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the Village Board authorize Change Order No. 1 to the 2019 Resurfacing and Sidewalk Program.
